Since coming home I sometimes stare at this photo of a big Afghani family wondering where they are, what they were thinking while I took the picture. It’s sinking in more and more that what they’re holding in the photo is all they have now. They aren’t on their way to a storage space where they can pick up their car, sofa, 55” television and Vitamix. This is it. They were walking to the Stage 2 camp after getting into dry clothes.
